NSW: NSW country rail tracks in disrepair
A state government report says more than a third of NSW's rural rail network is not good enough.
According to The Sydney Morning Herald, the report found that almost 40 per cent ofthe network had track that was not of reasonable quality.
The paper says the report also says around a fifth of lines are rated as being of poorquality while the network's condition has slid dramatically downhill in the past fouryears.
The paper quotes the report as saying the deterioration ... is impacting on safetythrough increased rail breaks and defects.
The report also says inadequate regular maintenance is contributing to the network'swoes, which are also hampering efficiencies through speed restrictions.
